(7) Highlights of my Cruise Staff performances on the Legend

On all the good things come and end! I would like to share the highlights of my first contract on the Legend of the Seas.
The night before we arrived in Venice, the Cruise Staff told me that there would be a lot of fog in the morning during our arrival. The Bridge team had requested that one of the Cruise Staff assist with a fog watch. And guess who got assigned that task? Yep… me, of course!
The duty started at 6:00 AM. I had to go outside on the passenger deck, just above the Bridge, with a radio tuned to the same channel as the Bridge team. My job? If I saw fog, I had to shout loudly into the radio: “FOG, FOG!”—to let the Bridge know there was fog (as if they couldn’t see it themselves... haha).
I had serious doubts about this "duty" and wasn’t even sure if I was supposed to take it seriously. But I still showed up at 6:00 AM, on time and in position. Naturally, one of the Cruise Staff came along just to watch—and laugh—at how I handled it.
I never actually made the call on the radio. It was just too embarrassing, and honestly, I wasn’t even sure it was real. You see… this is what they do to new hires!

The Liars clubs game show This game show was usually held during longer cruises and was always a guest favorite. The idea was simple but hilarious: four Cruise Staff members each played a character, and strange or unusual words were introduced. Each character had to give a definition of the word—but only one of us was telling the truth. The guests had to guess who that was!
My character? A worker from the Red Light District in Amsterdam (yes, really!). The word I had to define was “Full Fart”, which in nautical terms actually means full speed ahead. But in character, I explained it as something completely different: I said it referred to when a customer wanted to watch me from behind! The other Cruise Staff gave their own ridiculous explanations too.
This game show was always super funny, have you ever seen it on a cruise?
Sea sketch, do you remember on the farewell night this sketch, usually performed by the Cruise Staff? Do you remember the Sea Sketch on farewell night? It was usually performed by the Cruise Staff and was a highlight of the final show.
The sketch was based on the song:
“If I were not upon the sea,Something else I’d rather be…I would be happy all day long,And this would be my song…”
Each Cruise Staff member dressed up as a different character and acted out a silly motion or sound that matched their "dream job"—but the real chaos began when we had to perform our actions in sequence (and then backwards!).
I was the lighthouse keeper—I had to do a quick flashing motion every time the verse came to me, right when the tennis player was frantically searching for their tennis balls! The timing had to be perfect, and it often turned into total comedic mayhem. Other characters included a sergeant, blackjack dealer, tennis player, taxi driver, seamstress, and even an undertaker. Each one had their own silly action or phrase, and by the end of the song, we were all trying to keep up—usually laughing too hard to get it right.
It was always a guest favorite and such a fun way to end the cruise.
Have a look at this YouTube video and you will understand perfectly the fun of this song:

The Quest – The Craziest Game Show at Sea!
Have you ever participated in The Quest? It’s one of the wildest and funniest game shows on a cruise! There can be as many guests as you like—it’s a team-based game, usually held in the lounge late at night.
Here’s how it works: guests form teams, and the Cruise Staff host asks them to bring up all kinds of strange items as quickly as possible. It always starts off innocent—like a straw, a piece of fruit, or a sock—but quickly escalates to things like… a bra! Some guests took it to the next level—literally undressing themselves on the spot just to win a round. Others had clearly played the game before and came fully prepared with a bag full of random items, ready for anything. It was always hilarious to see what people were willing to do just to win. The energy, the chaos, and the competitiveness made it one of the most unforgettable parts of the cruise!
Napkin, Towel & Origami Folding – My Special Classes at Sea
After a couple of months onboard, you could choose to specialize in something extra—whatever you enjoyed most. I decided to start giving Napkin, Towel, and Origami Folding classes during sea days, usually held in the Schooner Bar.
These sessions were always popular and drew a lot of curious guests!
Do you remember those cute towel animals—monkeys, elephants, or swans—sitting in your stateroom at night? Your stateroom attendant made those, and that’s exactly the kind of folding we did in the towel folding class.
In the origami class, we taught guests how to fold simple birds, and in the napkin folding class, we created elegant shapes like lotus flowers or pyramids, perfect for decorating dinner tables.
It was such a fun and creative way to interact with guests and share something hands-on.
A Day in the Life of Cruise Staff – Then vs. Now
Now you have a bit of an idea what it was like to be part of the Cruise Staff. Back then, cruises were often longer, and the job was full of variety—games, classes, entertainment, guest interaction—it was nonstop fun and creativity.
Nowadays, things have changed quite a bit. Cruises are usually shorter, and the Cruise Staff role has become more specialized. You’ll see more Sports Staff, for example, helping guests at the Rock Climbing Wall or FlowRider. There are still a few Cruise Staff around, but there are fewer games and classes compared to before. The role has evolved, and it’s not quite the same as the old days.
