How the Cruise Bidding Process Works
The upgrade process usually follows a simple, yet exciting path. Here is the step-by-step journey from a standard booking to a potential suite:
The Invitation: A few months or weeks before your departure, you will receive an email (often titled "Upgrade Advantage" or "MoveUp") inviting you to browse available upgrades.
The Selection: You will see a list of higher-tier categories.
The Bid: For each category, you decide what you are willing to pay extra on top of your original fare. Most systems use a "strength meter" to show you if your bid is considered weak, fair, or strong.
The Waiting Game: Your bid remains "pending." The cruise line monitors their remaining inventory until the very last moment.
The Result: If your bid is accepted, you are notified via email. Your credit card is charged immediately, and your new boarding pass is issued with your upgraded suite number.
If your bid is not accepted, you simply keep your original cabin at the original price. There is no risk of losing your current booking.
